The School of Styles and Directions in Art

During the winter and spring season, the Latvian National Museum of Art offers a set of 17 lectures about major aspects of Latvian visual arts in the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. Attendees learn about the historical, conceptual and artistic evolution of the various styles of art that were used during the stated period. High school and university students can use the lectures for informational purposes to supplement what they are learning in courses related to the history of art. The theoretical aspects of the lectures are supplemented with extensive visual materials and exciting tours of the museum’s permanent collections.

The lectures are delivered by specialists from the Latvian National Museum of Art and are delivered in Latvian.

The lecture series was launched in 2003 and has proven to be enormously popular among students and instructors from the fields of art and art history. Each year, the number of people taking part in the process has increased.
