The Centre for Scientific Documents holds official papers of the Latvian National Museum of Art as well as countless historical documents related to the museum’s origins and the work that it has done. Among the documents are letters written to and by the architect and first director of the museum, Wilhelm Neumann (1849-1919). There are also the blueprints for the museum’s main building.
Here are information about past exhibitions, sketches by artists, photographs, documents, and reports from scholarly research conducted by the museum’s employees. Over the course of the years, the museum has assembled a fairly extensive collection of circulated posters, beginning from 1899 and continuing to the present day. There is also a collection of digitalised prints of the most outstanding posters of the past which the museum received from the Latvian Ministry of Culture. These documents have often been used by art historians and others for research and publications and they have sometimes been on display during various exhibitions. |
